World History (1300-modern era)
Grades 5-8
Mondays 9:00-10:25 a.m.
Overview:
This 30-week course will address events occurring in World History from early Renaissance to the contemporary era. Within this class we will explore the history of our world through primary sources, art, literature, as well as secondary sources in order to obtain a well-rounded view of historical events. We will also take time to develop note-taking and essay writing skills that will help students organize information and articulate their findings, both in writing and orally. The use of historical fiction novels will help students relate more to the historical events we will read about in our textbook by providing a narrative perspective. This course will encourage students to find areas of history that interest them individually and dive deeper into learning about those specific events/people, allowing and encouraging the students to make the study of history their own personal adventure. The primary textbook is written from a Christian worldview and this will guide our discussions in class, however, secular sources will also be incorporated into the class.
Grades: Grades will be given to parents at the end of each semester. However, we will be using an online grading platform that parents have access to and grades will be updated weekly. Parents and students are also encouraged to maintain open communication with Mrs. Halford and address any questions or concerns prior to the semester deadline.
Grading Scale:
90-100= A
80-89= B
70-79= C
60-69= D
0-59= E
Homework/Assignments:
Homework will be assigned weekly and students are responsible for the completion of the homework and turning it in each class session. An assignment schedule will be distributed monthly. Parents are encouraged to help students be accountable for completing the work. All assignments and grades will be updated weekly online.
